The invisible man

You know that quote "You never know what it's like till you walk a mile in someone else's shoes". Well I came to experience first hand the treatment a disabled person gets when they walk into a running store to buy shoes. I went over to Fleet Feet on Saturday to order new running shoes. Mine were just about spent after the WDW half and I decided to hold off on buying a new pair for obvious reasons. Well now it's time. I limped into the store and went straight for the men's running shoes to check out the Asics GT-2140 one more time before I ordered them. When I walked up to the shoes one employee (who was helping someone else) asked me in a very strange tone "are you alright". I told him yes I am limping because I just had surgery on my knee over a week ago. He just has oh and goes back to work. Yes I was acknowledged, but it came off to me as why are you here? So I stood in front of the shoes for a while and waited for an employee to assist me. Many looked my way, but none came over. After about 15 mins. of standing I had to sit down because my good leg was hurting from supporting my other. So I sat there for another 5mins. when a customer walked into the store and the door had not even closed behind her and this employee shot out from behind the counter and started to assist her. So I finally had enough and walked up to this teenager behind the counter and said well I have been standing over there for 20mins. now I guess to get someone to help me I need to come up where you are standing. I told her that I needed to order the GT-2140. Reason being they do not carry my size shoe. And she looked at me favoring my knee and said gave me that why is this guy buying running shoes. I said in case your wondering why I am buy running shoes but am having trouble walking I just had arthroscopic surgery on my left knee to remove some inflamed tissue behind my knee. Now what gets me is her next statement "I had that over a year ago to repair my ACL. Hey that's great then why are you looking at me like I just walked into the wrong neighborhood? Now I know I could be blowing this way out of proportion and that's not what people meant, but it's what I believed to had experienced. I won't lie I felt a little singled out and I have never felt that way the countless other times I had entered that store. Now I do feel bad for how I treated the girl behind the counter because I could tell she was new because she needed assistance from someone on how to order my shoes. But I was just so fired up at that point I really did not care who it was in front of me. I don't know what do you guys think? I will say I have now walked the mile and understand. That's it. I hope everyone is happy and healthy.

It's been one week

Hey guys things here have been good. The swelling has been going down everyday and I gain a little more motion in my knee everyday. Surprisingly there really has not been any pain in my knee. Just tightness and soreness. And no I have not been taking my hydrocodone. I do not like how I feel when I do. I have gone back to work. But I am only allowed desk work. Now for a reason why the medical industry can really get under my skin. I had an appointment to see my surgeon on wed. I have had it for about 3 months now. Well when I showed up the guy that was checking me in said that my appointment was canceled and the reason given was because that it was an unnecessary appointment. OK fine I think I have a post op appt. on April 4th. But I was not contacted by anyone from that office to let me know. All the guy could say is sorry. And really what else could he do. But what gets me burning is that if I dare miss an appointment and forgot to cancel you know I would receive a bill in the mail for a missed appt. Anyways that's it. I hope everyone is happy and healthy.

I'm back

Well I have to say that was not too bad. Friday the day of my surgery my knee hurt, but not as bad as I thought it would be. Today it is much better. I am allowed to move around with my crutches. Of course my wife is freaking out on me because I am moving around. But hopefully I will be able to start me rehab soon and get back out there. They prescribed me aspirin and hydrocodone. Not sure why they prescribed aspirin because I could of just bought it over the counter, but hey the Doctor knows best. I did request to be knocked out. They just wanted to give me a local and I did not think I would be able to handle seeing what was going on. The surgeon said that there was inflamed tissue under my knee cap that was causing the pain and they also drained the cyst that was behind my knee. So hopefully Mike speed will be back in full force. Well that's it. As always I hope everyone is happy and healthy.

One more day

Well one more day till they cut me open. I have to say I am a little nervous about this. I just want to be able to get back out on the road again. I have been depressed because I just can not run not even on the elliptical. Plus the weather is getting nice outside and I can not enjoy a good run! Hopefully in a couple of weeks I will be back on the road again. So how is everyone else doing? I see that only 3 people(me being one) have posted over on the Team Voice blog about this months challenge. Is everyone working towards achieving that goal? Are you slacking? Are we still a Team? Because of all the new members if you have a website please leave it here so I can see how you guys are doing and to give support. Well guys that's about it. I hope everyone is happy and healthy.

Added a new video

I just saw this on YouTube and nearly fell out of my chair in laughter. If you follow football you will totally get it. I put it in the side bar. All I have to say it "Get you buffalo wings ready!"

Not much here

So like theres been not too much going on here. My knee is killing me a lot more then it used to. I can not wait for surgery. I am still going to the gym. Only strength training. No cross training my knee won't allow it. That's about it. Oh yeah I would just like to say good luck to all the T.V. members who are running in the Princess Half this weekend!
